Summer is an exciting time for athletes. We’re gearing up to celebrate two of the biggest sporting events of the season: the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2024 paralympics also held in the City of Lights. From 26 July to 11 August, Paris will become a global sports arena for the 2024 Paris Olympics, featuring 32 sports and hundreds of athletes. Then, from 28 August to 8 September, the Paralympics will showcase the talent of athletes with disabilities.

If you’re a fan of sports, then you won’t want to miss the chance to catch the incredible feats of athletes from over 200 countries as they gather to compete for gold in Paris.

What Are the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Officially, the Paris Olympics are known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad. Paris will be the host city for more than 10,500 athletes from over 200 countries. For two nonstop weeks, players will go for gold in 754 sessions. The world will be watching, and it’s an exciting time for any sports fan who’s been itching for an Olympics game after the last event in Tokyo in 2021.

A Breakout New Sport Hits the Scene

Breakdancing is debuting as an official Olympic sport in 2024! Paris will debut “breaking” as an event to celebrate the incredible acrobatic movements, footwork, and musical talent that make it such an impressive activity.

There will be men and women-breaking events with 16 B-boys and 16 B-Girls facing off in solo battles. They’ll rely on a wide range of power moves and have to adapt their style to the music to earn the judges’ votes.

Breakdancing was originally featured in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Argentina. Due to its massive success and popularity, the International Olympic Committee accepted it as an official sport in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Three More New Sports Make Their Way to the Olympics

On top of breakdancing, there are three more exciting sports making their way into Olympic territory. It is good for our Aussie hearts to hear that surfing is now an Olympic event (it has always been in our eyes). Skateboarding and sport climbing will also now be recognised on the Olympic level. The Paris Olympics mark an exciting year for athletes around the world. The expanding perspective of Olympic sports makes for an exciting game that also redefines what it means to be a typical athlete.” We’re beyond thrilled to see the games evolving and continuing to offer a space for everyone.

Australia in the 2024 Olympics

Aussies can feel proud to see their country represented with 203 selected athletes across 19 sports. There will be 118 debutantes in Paris this year, distributed across 120 females and 83 male athletes.

Australia’s Gymnastics Squad Will Make History

Australia’s 13-member gymnastics squad is making Summer Games history. They will become the largest contingent in the Summer Olympics history, featuring 11 women and two men. There will be 11 debutants and two second-time Olympians competing for gold.

The 2024 Paralympics: What to Know

The Paralympics are always a special event because they inspire hope and challenge stereotypes in one go. Living with a disability doesn’t mean you can’t achieve great things. Athletes at the Paralympics break stigmas and records as they participate in 22 summer para sports, including archery, equestrian, blind football, goalball, martial arts, powerlifting, and more.

This year, 4,400 paralympic athletes from around the globe will gather in Paris to compete in exciting competitions. There will be 23 disciplines and 549 paralympic events to enjoy. With nearly a month of action spanning 269 competitive sessions, the 2024 Paralympics are one of the top summer sporting events to look forward to this year.

Australian 2024 Paralympics Team

The final team for 2024 is still being finalized, but Australia recently announced its swimming team, 30 Dolphins, will make it to Paris after bringing home 33 medals from Tokyo in 2021. The diverse swim team ranges in age from 19 to 35 and includes debutants as well as a two-time gold medalist, Rowan Crothers.

Boccia players Daniel Michel and Jamieson Leeson, along with their ramp operators Ash Maddern and Jasmine Haydon, were also recently announced. Stay tuned at the  https://www.paralympic.org.au/ for more announcements.
