SOLID FOODS TAKE TIME TO BREAK DOWN

We all know that solid food such as energy bars, fruit, bread, nuts, rice cakes, etc. are fantastic sources of energy. They also typically contain various fats, proteins, and carbs. These are great to help you feel full and have a break from sweet sugary alternatives. Though, the issue is that the body needs quite a bit of time to break these foods down and turn them into energy. Meaning they are not the best to consume during high-intensity racing and training. So what’s better, Solid or Liquid Fuel on Race Day?

STICK TO LIQUIDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN RUNNING

During exercise, liquid foods always digest better than solid foods. Scientists in the Netherlands completed a trial on 32 triathletes to study liquid versus solid carbohydrate intake before and during three hours of intense exercise. Results showed that half of the triathletes managed to complete all the training when consuming liquid fuel only. Though when solid fuel was introduced only 9 athletes could handle and complete the workout. The results concluded that solids are alright to use during moderate cycling though once you begin running, jarring your body, and sloshing around the stomach it is far better to stick to liquids (Greenfield, B TrainingPeaks)

Our Fuel X Endurance Fuel contains everything you need to stay energised, hydrated, and replenished during training and racing. No sticky gels, bars, or chews needed! Our endurance fuel was specifically designed to be easy on the gut and have a very mild taste. This is to prevent athletes from getting the ever-so-common flavour fatigue. Each sachet of the drink mix contains 200 calories and is suggested to be mixed with 500-700ml of water. This can be sipped on over an hour of exercise, using hunger as a guide.
