Winners of the annual 96km Kokoda Challenge have revealed their secrets of success after winning the endurance event in an outstanding time and raising funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation.
Competing teams from across the country congregated in the Gold Coast Hinterland on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of July to run and trek the arduous terrain throughout the day, night and weekend, in all weather conditions.
Fixx Nutrition’s ‘Fixx Chix’ team of four women completed the course in an outstanding 15 hours and 37 minutes, which resulted in them finishing as the 1st female team and 2nd overall. The cut off completion time for the event is 39 hours.
Michelle Buchegger, Co-Founder of Fixx Nutrition, said she was immensely proud to support such an inspirational group of women in one of Australia’s historically important charity events.
“The Kokoda Youth Foundation’s values of courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifice take their origin from Australian soldiers who fought on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea during WWII. The Foundation is supporting Australians to do extraordinary things and we are honoured to be a part of such an important event,” Ms Buchegger said.
“Our team was made up of four women aged 47 to 55 years old – proving age is no barrier! We are so proud of these incredible, strong and courageous women who amazed us with their performance.”
“The Fixx Nutrition team were their support crew for the whole event. We provided their nutrition, gear and first aid at all four checkpoints. A team of four Year 12 boys completed the full 96km challenge with support from their school Teach Aid and local runner Leah Begley, her husband Pete and their families.
