My plans are to compete in 51 races in 17 different world locations, creating history for the South Pacific region in Obstacle Course Racing (OCR), the latest inclusion to the 2028 Olympic Games as a modern Pantathlon to include the 3 modalities of short course Ninja, mid-range OCR, and long distance Adventure Racing
Last year, apart from completing 38 races in 10 global locations, with 3 World Championship events and a number of National Champs, I returned with a chest of treasures, including 38 race medals, 10 Trifecta medals, 9 Special Awards, 4 Gold, 5 Silver, and 3 Bronze.
“20 IN 24”
A Review of My World Tour to Set New Records for the Asia Pacific / Oceania
Region, in the Newest Olympic Sport of OCR – Obstacle Course Racing
Last year the IOC (International Olympic Committee) confirmed that OCR would be one of the modern
Pentathlon events at the Olympic Games, and would appear next at Los Angeles in 2028
As an OCR Coach and competing athlete, this was so exciting, and after enquiring about
achievements in the APAC region, I explored OCR event options overseas with 3 Key Purposes;
➢ to enlarge my own OCR experience as a Competitor and Official
➢ to set new records for the region
➢ to meet with OCR event Management and identify locations to bring athletes to
My tour schedule was set in 5 tranches, with the heaviest segment being the final 10 Trifecta
weekends, in 9 countries, in 11 weeks
39 flights, 6 trains, 4 ferries, 3 buses, and 15 rental cars took me through 22 countries with races twice
in Spain, UK, France, and Thailand, as well as in Italy, Austria, Slovenia, China, UAE, Netherlands,
Korea, Croatia, Greece, Fiji, Philippines, and around Australia
The potpourri of weather, geography, terrain, and logistics made for a thrilling tour, with a few injuries
to ruffle my racing feathers
Location highlights of the Journey included magical islands in Greece and Croatia, testing mountains
in France and China, majestic scenery in Slovenia and France, and unsettling terrain in UAE and Spain
Experience highlights were –
➢ Witnessing some of the most wonderful scenes, historic sites, and cultures of the planet
➢ Building fantastic global friendships with OCR athletes and associated connections
➢ Interpreting the haka to a crowd at the Euro Champs after winning Gold in Bled
➢ Collapsing with heat exhaustion at the Super Finish line in Pattaya, and being fussed over for an
hour before Medics would let me go and run my Sprint (which I won)
➢ Starting the year with a torn shoulder, then adding a torn bicep, strained back, and 2 finger
dislocations to end the year tired after 64 races, but not broken
➢ Sharing events with Adaptive athletes who refuse to be defined by impairments
➢ Claiming 12 Gold (2 World, 3 APAC, and 2 National Champs), 2 Silver, and 6 Bronze medals
➢ Earning the first ever Spartan Shield for an athlete from the APAC / Oceania region
➢ Setting a monster record of 20 Spartan Trifecta weekends in a year for the region
To help athletes explore OCR around the globe, I will be publishing a 2025 OCR Schedule, offering
