Born from cramps; to defeat cramps

When SunRice acquired our successful food manufacturing business Fehlbergs Fine Foods in 2017, we (Michelle and Jan Buchegger) were ready for their next challenge.

With over 25 years in the food industry, we knew the power of natural ingredients.

But when a leading sports scientist called us late one night in 2016, urgently seeking pickle juice for his athletes, we never imagined it would lead us to change sports nutrition forever.

That late-night call sparked something in us. Why were professional athletes relying on ordinary pickle juice? We know that some people love it but it certainly fits the bill of being an acquired taste. There had to be a better way.

So we began experimenting with a specially formulated, all-natural pickle juice concoction. Our testing ground? A team of professional rugby players who were fighting against muscle cramps that cut their performance short.

Two years of rigorous testing, countless formulations, and endless feedback sessions later, CrampFix® was born – the world's first specialised natural anti-cramping formula.

While we initially created CrampFix® for professional athletes, something unexpected happened. We started receiving messages from people from all walks of life – marathon runners, weekend warriors, and even people suffering from nighttime leg cramps. Their stories touched us deeply.

Just as incredibly, this initial foray into sports supplements opened a new door for us to pursue and combine our accumulated knowledge around creating nutritious and natural food products with our passion for sports.

Then the cramps hit us…

The Australian market was initially tough to crack, but we persevered, getting to the grassroots of the sporting industry. A turning point came at the 2017 Ironman Australia competition, where our cramping station gave struggling athletes new hope.

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, we faced our biggest challenge yet. With sporting events cancelled, we had to pivot. When you are a sports nutrition company this could be seen as a little bit of a hurdle…

But as athletes ourselves (Jan has completed 10 marathons and three ultramarathons), we know that obstacles are just opportunities in disguise.

Today, we can proudly say that we are the official nutrition partner for multiple athletic events and our products can be found globally. Most importantly, we have not lost sight of our passion for helping amateur and professional athletes alike achieve their goals using our products, safe in the knowledge of their quality and efficacy.
